Our step by step guide to coming to work in the UK couldn’t be easier

If you are a nurse wishing to work in the UK as nurse, you will need your UK PIN number. To find our more about how to get this visit the NMC or look at section 7 of our Guide to Living and working in the UK (which can be downloaded to the right of this page).

The NMC will explain how you go about getting a decision letter so we can register you on our Overseas Nursing Programme. We can provide you with work as an Auxiliary Trained Abroad or a Healthcare Assistant whilst you undergo your ONP.

Step 1 - As soon as you have contacted us, we will have an informal chat to ascertain your plans and requirements. We will also advise you of the work we can offer you upon arrival.

Step 2 - If you are a nurse and wish to register with the NMC you will need to contact the NMC who will explain the process to obtain your decision letter. At this stage, they are also likely to recommend you contact your local IELTS organization to take your IELTS test.

Step 3 - Following the initial chat and provided you have the correct qualifications and experience to work for Strand, we will send you a checklist of the information you need to bring to interview with us when you arrive in the UK.

Step 4 - We ask that you provide us details of your references, so we can obtain references prior to your arrival in the UK.

Step 5 - As soon as you have details of your UK arrival date, we will book you in for an interview at our Central London based office.

Step 6 - At interview (which will take approximately 1 hour), you will be asked to complete a registration pack and we will send off for your UK Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check (equivalent to the Police Check).

Step 7 - As soon as we have all the information from the checklist and your clear CRB check is returned to us, we can begin to provide you with work.

Step 8 - When you have worked your first shift, we will provide you with a letter to confirm you are working for Strand which will enable you to set up a UK Bank account.

** throughout this process, as soon as you have your NMC decision letter, we will book your on our ONP Nursing programme. If you have not received your letter by the time you reach step 7, we will be able to provide you with work as an Auxiliary Trained Abroad or a Healthcare Assistant, until such a time as you have received your NMC PIN Number.

We are available on e-mail or phone throughout this process to answer any questions you have or provide assistance with any problems you have.
